A Message from the Director ~

Thank you for visiting the First Judicial District Department of Correctional Services’ website.  I am committed to keeping the citizens informed of the department’s activities and outcomes.

The First Judicial District Department of Correctional Services is committed to protecting the public, staff, and people under supervision from victimization.   The department provides a continuum of supervision, assessment, and programming opportunities, which are individualized for each person under community supervision.  Department staff strive to engage the people being served so as to facilitate positive long-term behavior changes.  The services are implemented according to evidence-based principles in order to give people the greatest opportunity at success.   A current priority is to increase program and supervision successes for African Americans in order to reduce the overrepresentation of African Americans incarcerated from Black Hawk County.

Linking people under supervision with positive community supports is vital to our mission and we need the help of the community to accomplish this goal.  Please contact our office if you would like to serve as a mentor, tutor, or help in any capacity.

The Department of Correctional Services provides an exciting career in Corrections and we are looking for people to join our workforce who are share our beliefs that people can change, every person should be treated with dignity and respect, our efforts help make people safer, and we must work together as a team if we are to succeed.  We encourage minorities and people fluent in other languages, as well as English, to apply for job and volunteer opportunities.
