The department’s mission is to “To advance successful offender reentry to protect the public, staff and offenders from victimization.” The department keeps Iowans safer by providing a continuum of supervision, assessment, and programming opportunities which reduces the risk for re-offense and further victimization. These efforts are showing promising result. People under supervision are held accountable to the community through victim restitution, community service, and correctional supervision fees. The department collaborates with community agencies and individuals who help us accomplish our mission. Specialty courts and specialized supervision for mentally ill offenders are examples of these collaborations. This allows us to meet the unique needs of the communities throughout the district. The Department of Correctional Services provides an exciting career in Corrections and we are looking for people to join our workforce who are share our beliefs that people can change, every person should be treated with dignity and respect, our efforts help make people safer, and we must work together as a team if we are to succeed.
